Band Biography
"We're gonna die trying",
this a pact amongst Jassen
(vocals), Jack (guitar, Steve
(bass) and Matt (drums) in
2001 as their band, Die Trying
formed. Each member
had been playing in other
bands and was no stranger
to the music scene. Together,
they packed a powerful punch
and hit the pavement hard
to get their music out to
audiences.
There were no "days off"
for the band. They were
either playing, handing out
flyers, recording songs for
a demo, or pirating gigs.
In Sacramento, getting
a show was extremely difficult,
so the band would just show
up at performances and claim
to be on the bill. Jassen
admits that "Most securitiy
guys, most roadies don't know
one local band from another.
You can walk into pretty
much any show."
After a while, Die Trying
hooked up with Papa
Roach and opened
a great number of his concerts.
It was here that the group
was noticed by Island Records
and was signed. Their
debut self-titled album is
the very essence of the band,
gritty and original. The
songs vary from "Dirty,
Dirty", a response to
a 80s Waitressess hit "I
Know What Boys Want",
to "Oxygen's Gone",
a haunting song about the
loss of a loved one. Die
Trying is definitely starting
to get paid back for all of
their hard work. They
still have a way to go, but
it is pretty clear that this
band is well on its way.
