Band Biography
After playing local haunts
in their hometown of St. Charles,
Missouri and recording parts
of their debut album in a
storage shed, Greenwheel has
certainly arrived with a bang
on the national music scene.
The group supported
artists such as Our Lady Peace,
Hoobastank, Default, and Injected
before beginning their own
headlining tour in 2002.
Ryan Jordan (vocals), Andrew
Dwiggins (guitar), Brandon
Armstrong (bass), Douglas
Randall (drums), and Mark
Wauntower (guitar) began playing
together during high school
in 1998. After going through
several name changes, the
group decided on Greenwheel
and put together a self-released,
self-titled album the following
year. A buzz was forming very
quickly around the band. Jordan
gave the group a one-year
window to crack into the music
business. At the end
of that time, he was slated
to go to DePaul Univeristy
for a major in Theatre. Needless
to say, Jordan hasn't yet
made it to college. The
group began performing at
New York City showcases where
they caught the attention
of Island Records who quickly
signed the group.
Suma Holiday, Greenwheel's
debut album, was released
in 2002. It is evidence
of the group's extrordiary
genius at songwriting. Their
lyrics read like poetry, with
insight that it is usually
foreign to five 20-something
artists. Their song "Dim
Halo" is strong evidence
of their introspective talents,
"And to all my regret,
I fare the well, You came
around too slowly as I fell.
My screams can only
echo off the walls, I can
see nothing left to break
my fall."
Their songs may be emotional
and evocative, but this feeling
is only increased during a
live show. Jordan allows
himself to feel and express
every word in every song.
He appears angry and
agsnt ridden with the rocking
"Identitiy", yet
quiet and introspective with
"The End". Greenwheel
is truly concerned with fine
tuning their craft. Andrew
Dwiggins states that "Whether
we sell a ton of records or
not, the music always comes
first." With music
being what Greenwheel does
best, it pretty easy to see
success on the horizon.
