Dylan at the Opera is an album collection of Bob Dylan tracks performed in different genres of rock and operatic vocals by Israeli band Diva de Lai. The album will be available October 1st, 2013 via Creative Leverage Productions and will be available on all major digital retail outlets worldwide.
The concept of the album stems from incorporating a full-length opera inspired by the 1960s and 1970s. It was drummer Yuval Nachtom, who was the brainchild of this original release. Not only did he and the band want to bring back the nostalgic times of the 60s and 70s and its thriving music scene, they wanted to highlight one of its greatest songwriters, Bob Dylan.
The legend was to be the main inspiration and driving force. With a collection of not necessarily his most hit songs that were fan favorites, Diva de Lai knew these songs would be fitting for an opera because they are basic, have an inviting melody and relatable lyrics. Every song from Dylan at the Opera was hand-picked.Though Diva de Lai will soon be releasing this concept album as a tribute to Bob Dylan, they are currently working on new, original music for their next release.
The band is comprised of three musicians and one award winning international Mezzo-Soprano trained vocalist. In addition to the four members, there are 10 artists playing 10 varied instruments, and a full choir on the album.
YUVAL NACHTOM
Yuval Nachtom is the Founder of the label Creative Leverage Productions. He also is the founder of Diva de Lai band and created the band’s unique sound. Yuval has been a drummer for many years and has participated in numerous musical projects. In addition to two sticks, he holds a PhD in Economics.
YOSSI FINE
Yossi Fine is an Israeli bassist and producer. He fronts the world music/reggae/funk band Ex-Centric Sound System. In 1991, he received a Grammy nomination for his composition ‘Always Knows,’ which appears on the Stanley Jordan record Cornucopia. He has performed, recorded with and produced music for musicians across the globe, including Naughty By Nature (creating the bass line for their 1993 hit single ‘Hip Hop Hooray’),Gil Evans, John Scofield, Kenny Kirkland, Lou Reed, Rubén Blades, Stanley Jordan, Me’shell Ndegeocello, David Bowie, Brian Eno, Anthony B, Karsh Kale, Cheb i Sabbah, Antibalas, Hassan Hakmoun, Hadag and Nahash, Ofra Haza, Noa and Hamsa Lila. Considered a pivotal force in the evolution of the bass, Fine has produced over 25 albums, and contributed bass to over 150.
KARIN SHIFRIN
Mezzo-Soprano Karin Shifrin is a leading classical singer in Israel. She regularly performs Opera, Baroque music and musical theater. She has received high praise for her remarkable musical interpretations, her acting and broad repertoire, as well as her versatile exposition of contemporary work. She has performed under the batons of Maestro Zubin Mehta, Violinist and conductor Shlomo Minz, Maestro Salvador Brotons and other main conductors /musicians. Karin performs regularly at The New Israeli Opera, Israel’s national theater Habima, the Opera Camera and the Opera fringe ensemble, performing classical and modern repertoire alongside well-known orchestras in Israel and around the globe.
EYAL SUCHER
Eyal Sucher holds a Masters degree in music, specializing in orchestra conducting. During his studies he studied under Maestro Noam Sheriff and the late Maestro Mendi Rodan. Eyal has conducted many orchestral works in a variety of styles ranging from earlier classical music, to 20th century contemporary music. As a rock musician Eyal has been part of local bands such as the Trip Hop outfit ‘Brownies’ incorporating rock with heavy layered electronic music, performing and recording as guitarist, programmer and keyboard player. During the past ten years Eyal has been producing numerous Rock, Pop, and Blues events.
