Claiming all the credentials of a bonafide '77 super group, The Bermondsey Joyriders is a band pooling the hard-won experience and history of three veteran punks who are as accomplished as they are inventive, who have captured the imagination of crowds and critics alike with their blend of punk power, soulful slide blues, and sharp social commentary, delivered with a distinctly British wit.
Founding members Gary Lammin (vocals / guitar) and Martin Stacey (bass) cut their teeth in the Joe Strummer-produced Little Roosters and Generation X precursors Chelsea respectively, whilst recent recruit Chris Musto (drums) is a sticksman of some credentials – having previously played with Johnny Thunders, Joe Strummer and Nico, to name but a few!
More than the sum of their impressive punk rock heritage however, The Bermondsey Joyriders have won praise for splicing those sounds from suburbs with raw blues and Lammin's startling slide guitar – emerging with a sonic signature that is undeniably all their own. Given just 12 hours in the studio to lay down their self-titled 2008 debut, they managed to produce a record which Classic Rock magazine's Carol Clerk deemed to have 'pulled off a really impudent mix of influences', and which Guitarist magazine’s Charles Shaar Murray felt had achieved a 'unique spin on punk-blues'.
Now with second album Noise and Revolution The Bermondsey Joyriders show listeners what they're really capable of. Given all the hours of studio time the budget would enable – over a number of weeks, and under the direction of Cure and Depeche Mode producer David M Allen, the band have created an ambitious concept record, which fully realizes the ideas that won acclaim when merely sketched out on their debut.
The Band have recently shot a music video for their forthcoming double a-side single entitled 'Johnny Thunders Was A Human Being' which is a tribute to the late, great former 'New York Dolls' guitarist Johnny Thunders.
The Bermondsey Joyriders' third album is set to land on May 26th 2014. Titled 'Flamboyant Thugs', it will be 'a driving, straight-ahead, no-twists-or-turns recording', in the words of vocalist and guitarist Gary Lammin. He adds 'this will be our 'Spitfires and Hurricanes'; diving in and running fast, dynamic and at lightning speed! ‘Noise & Revolution’ opened the situation up with a certain 'insight' into what's going on socially - now we intend to show what could be a way out…'
