In the Baltimore metal scene, there exists a band unlike the rest: the female-fronted Sweet Suicide. Born out of the glorious combination of 'death metal and a female lead,' Cindy Parr (lead vocals) and Greg Lane (bass guitar) from the industrial band Dying Design merged with the death metal group Heschant, bringing Jesse Jenkins (lead guitar, vocals) and Moses Wells (drums), the group started to make music in August 2011.They recently added former Heschant rhythm guitartist, Ronnie Ward. Together, their music is influenced by Evanescence, Stone Sour, Volbeat, and The Faceless. Fans liken the band's 'soft, sweet, melodic female vocals' and 'shredding guitar riffs and male backing growls' to Lacuna Coil or Evanescence.
Since forming, Sweet Suicide has found itself on the road to success. Besides numerous other gigs, they have shared bills and have been the opening act for national bands such as, Otep and Adema. They have also released two well-praised singles: the song 'December' in February 2012 and-- two years later--'Stolen Innocence.' The latter debuted on 98 Rock, Baltimore’s biggest rock music station.
Their music was also featured in Go DIY's 2013 compilation CD, which covers new artists in the Maryland/Virginia/Washington DC area. For her role as a female hard rock musician, lead singer Cindy Parr has been interviewed alongside influential figures including Joan Jett, DORO, Lita Ford, Amy Lee, Lzzy Hale, Christina Scabbia, and Angela Gossow in the 2014 book 'Not Just Tits in a Corset.'
Sweet Suicide is currently focusing their time on playing live metal, writing new music, and recording their first EP, to be released late in 2014.
Information about Sweet Suicide and their new releases can be found on Soundcloud, Reverbnation, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and on the band's official site. |
