Josh Charles, a musician in love with New Orleans, developed a new and revolutionary partnership with Amazon.com. 100% of the revenue from downloads of his post-Katrina song; "Healing Time" will be donated to The Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans (PRCNO) to help rebuild, restore, and preserve the city.
He was in the process of making New Orleans his home when Katrina devastated New Orleans. He was forced to get on one of the last buses out of the city and into Houston. A brilliant piano player who has studied and played with Dr. John, Wynton Marsalis and The Meters, Charles was scheduled to hit the recording studio the day after Katrina roared through town, claiming lives and flooding homes and businesses. Three months after the storm, Josh made that return trip to begin his scheduled recording with members of Dr. John's band and found people displaced, heartbroken, and hungry. Troubled by images that will never leave him, he wrote "Healing Time." "I had to do something," says Charles. "The spirit of New Orleans is with me wherever I go. Times are still very hard down there, but together we can make a difference. For less than a cup of coffee you get a song, and all of the money goes to rebuilding homes through the PRCNO. It's a win -win."
Its the first time that Amazon is not taking their 30 percent, but instead allowing us to give the entire $.99 download to rebuild through the PRCNO.
On Martin Luther King Jr Day, Josh performed live on ABC-TV's "Good Morning America" accompanied by the Harlem Girls and Boys Choir from the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. as part of their Inauguration coverage.
The first leg of Josh's "Rebuild Tour" went throughout Louisiana and Texas in March and concentrated on wide-appeal TV performances, in-stores and performances in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Houston, Austin, and Dallas. Josh was also a featured artist at the SXSW Music Conference in Austin, TX on March 20th, where he had a sold out performance. |
